The arrival of a new Roman Polanski movie means the conversation surrounding his past will start all over again. And honestly, with the whole Birth of a Nation thing going on right now and the stuff being said about Nate Parker, I'd be perfectly fine if we just left it alone. So I'm going to try and do what I always do which is look at the work, and in the case of Polanski's Based On a True Story the cast he's assembling is enough to be excited about.
Eva Green and Polanski's wife Emmanuelle Seigner will star in the film, which Olivier Assayas (Clouds of Sils Maria) has adapted from Delphine de Vigan's bestselling book. The story centers on a struggling writer whose life is endangered by an obsessive, influential fan. Green will play the obsessed one, which sounds like the right part for her. I can't wait to see how Polanski has her cast that icy gaze.
