There's so much awesome in Netflix's original feature Our Souls at Night that it may their best pick up since expanding into movies. Last year we learned screen legends Robert Redford and Jane Fonda would reunite to lead the film, and a principal photography begins in a couple of days an excellent surrounding cast has been confirmed.
Matthias Schoenaerts (A Bigger Splash), Judy Greer (Ant-Man), Bruce Dern (Nebraska), and Iain Armitage (Big Little Lies) are co-starring in the film which will be directed by Ritesh Batra. Batra was at the helm of the lovely Indian romance The Lunchbox, which continues to be a favorite of mine. Kent Haruf's novel has been adapted by the stellar writing duo Michael H. Weber and Scott Neustadter (The Fault In Our Stars), telling the story of two small town widowers living all alone in big empty houses who seek to forge a romantic connection.
That's a ton of talent, and if this were a theatrical effort I'd be first in line to see it. Better make sure my Netflix subscription stays up to date.
