Natalie Portman Becomes Jackie Kennedy In Powerful First 'Jackie' Clip

This is turning out to be an incredible year for Chilean director Pablo Larrain. Already he's impressed with the riveting drama The Club (reviewed here), scored one of Cannes' breakout films with Neruda, and now he's earning strong reviews for Jackie, his Jackie Kennedy biopic starring Natalie Portman.

From the moment Portman was cast as Kennedy and that first image dropped, it was obvious her performance was going to be in the Oscars discussion. Based on the buzz out of Venice  that definitely seems to be the case, and now we can see what the fuss is about in this first clip. The film centers on the four days following the assassination of her husband, President John F. Kennedy, framed around an interview with a LIFE magazine reporter. Greta Gerwig, Billy Crudup, John Hurt, Peter Sarsgaard, Max Casella, and Beth Grant co-star.

Jackie will screen next at TIFF and expect it to get snapped up for distribution quickly and dropped into the Oscars race.
