Doug Liman Eyes Sci-Fi Adaptation, 'Unearthed'
Remember when Doug Liman directed small movies like Swingers and Go? Man, that was a long time ago. He's expanded his horizons significantly since then, of course, and is rapidly becoming a go-to-guy for science fiction movies. The Edge of Tomorrow and Jumper director is now eyeing an adaptation of sci-fi adventure novel, "Unearthed".
Unearthed is based on the first of Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner's upcoming two-book series which is described as Lara Croft meets Indiana Jones in space. Hmmm....anyway, it tracks two women as they go tomb raiding on a newly discovered planet to unravel an ancient civilizations secrets, only to unearth something that could spell doom for all of humanity. The authors really dig Liman's work which is why set out to ink this deal with him even before the books hit stands next year.
Next up for Liman is a reunion with Tom Cruise for crime thriller American Made (formerly Mena). He also recently dropped Fox's Gambit film to direct Warner Bros.' Justice League spinoff, Dark Universe.
