The 'Fences' Poster Highlights Stars Denzel Washington And Viola Davis

For the time being every conversation about the awards season must be concluded with, "Well, all of this depends on Fences, of course." Denzel Washington's adaptation of August Wilson's acclaimed play, for which he and co-star Viola Davis took home Tony Awards, is one of the last major wild cards left. Some are already expecting Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Best Actor for Denzel, and for Davis now that she's officially in the Best Supporting Actress category.

Paramount Pictures is taking on the burden of high expectations with the excellent trailer they released some weeks ago, and now this new poster. Simple in design, it highlights the film's two greatest assets.  The 1950s-set film centers on the struggles of Troy Maxson, a black man and head of household who has never come to grips with missing out on his dream. He was a great baseball player as a youth but due to the color barrier he was never able to pursue it. Now working as a trash collector, he struggles to provide for his family.

Fences will be part of the crowded field opening on Christmas Day.
