Ewan McGregor Wants An Obi-Wan Spinoff; New 'Rogue One' Character Posters

The arrival of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in a couple of months marks a new chapter in the franchise George Lucas built. For the first time on the big screen Lucasfilm will be veering away from the 'Chapter' narrative for an earlier story set just prior to the events of 'A New Hope'. It's a bold move taking that kind of step following the huge success of 'The Force Awakens', and as we know there will be other standalone efforts to come. We know about a young Han Solo movie starring Alden Ehrenreich, and there have been rumors of others.

But what old Ben? Can Obi-Wan Kenobi get some love? Ewan McGregor sure hopes so, telling Premiere (via DenofGeek) that he thinks a story is out there for the Jedi Master...

“I’ve always thought there was a story to tell between my last one and Alec Guinness’ first one...“It would be fun to film that story now I’m older. I’d be the right age. I’m forty-five, Alec Guinness was what, sixty? I could do two of them!”

This isn't the first time he's teased interest in returning as Obi-Wan, and there have been rumblings of a movie being in development. None of that has panned out, but now with Star Wars spinoffs very much a thing of the present it could happen. Can we get an early team-up adventure with Kenobi and Samuel L. Jackson's Mace Windu?

Before any of that happens we still have 'Rogue One' to deal with. The Gareth Edwards-directed war flick (How cool is that? A Star Wars flick that actually looks like a war movie) has dropped eight new character posters featuring Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, Diego Luna as Captain Cassian Andor ,Donnie Yen as Chirrut Imwe, Jiang Wen as Baze Malbus, Alan Tudyk as droid K-2SO, Riz Ahmed as Bodhi Rook, Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera, and Ben Mendelsohn as the villainous Director Orson Krennic.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens December 16th.
