While the news Leonardo DiCaprio will turn his environmental advocacy into a Captain Planet movie is exciting, let's talk about a project that actually has him in front of the camera. And in this case, it will also find him headed back down to the racially-charged Old South, where he was so damned amazing in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained.
Deadline reports DiCaprio is attached to an adaptation of "Truevine: Two Brothers, a Kidnapping, and a Mother’s Quest; A True Story of the Jim Crow South", which Paramount is picking up the rights to. Beth Macy's novel explores racial prejudice through albino African-American brothers George and Willie Muse, who in the early 1900s were kidnapped from a Virginia tobacco farm and forced to become a circus act, coming under the control of P.T. Barnum. As they performed throughout the country and abroad, becoming famous as duo Eko and Iko, their mother never stopped trying to bring them home.
Here in VA their story still is told in old southern homes by mothers warning their children to stay together or meet the same fate.We'll see how this one shapes up, but presumably DiCaprio would play the man who steals them away, or perhaps he'll play Barnum if the ringmaster is featured in the screenplay.
