'Rambo' Reboot On The Way Minus Sylvester Stallone
There has been a lot of rumbling about some kind of new Rambo project, whether it be a television series that may include Sylvester Stallone, or a feature film reboot. At the start of the year it was Stallone himself who said he would never return as the iconic character, and this latest update seems confirm that he has put the war behind him for good.
According to THR, Ariel Vromen (Criminal) will direct Rambo: New Blood, with somebody we've never seen before as the title character. That decision has yet to be made but obviously whoever steps in will have huge shoes to fill. The PTSD-afflicted soldier was first introduced in David Morrell's book, "First Blood", and then became screen legend with the 1982 adaptation and three subsequent sequels.
The hope is to have Rambo be similar to James Bond in that any actor could step in and play him. It makes sense, but I'm not sure audiences will feel the same way. I don't think anybody embodied 007 in the same way Stallone embodies Rambo, but it will be very interesting to see who the studio selects.
