A few years ago while David Lowery was still red-hot after Ain't Them Bodies Saints and Robert Redford was about to release All is Lost, the two set out to work together on a crime flick, The Old Man and the Gun. But before that could ever happen, Lowery got involved with Disney's remake of Pete's Dragon and brought Redford along for it. Now it's finally being revived, and coming aboard is another actor Lowery is very familiar with.
Casey Affleck will reteam with Lowery on the film, joining Redford in giving it one heck of a starring duo. Penned by Lowery and based on the 2003 New Yorker article by David Grann, the true story centers on Forrest Tucker (Redford), a bank robber born in 1920 who spent most of his life either in jail or escaping from it. The film will recount Forrest’s twilight years from his escape from San Quentin at the age of 70 to his unprecedented heists that confused authorities and enchanted the public. Affleck will play the detective captivated by the criminal's commitment to his craft, and of course there will be a woman involved who loves the lawbreaker despite his chosen profession.
Filming begins next spring, but next week it goes up for sale at the American Film Market where investors are sure to want a piece.
