Casey Affleck And Rooney Mara Shot A New Film In Secret With Director David Lowery

The film that helped earn David Lowery has gig directing Disney's Pete's Dragon remake was his breakout indie, Ain't Them Bodies Saints. The neo-Western starred Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara, and everyone has been keen on working together again ever since. In the case of Affleck, he's reteaming with Lowery on The Old Man and the Gun, which will star Robert Redford in his final movie role. But it turns out that won't be their second time working together; it will actually be their third.

While doing an interview with DP/30 for Manchester by the Sea, Affleck revealed he and Mara reunited with Lowery on a secretly-shot movie over the summer. He didn't go into details on it, but fortunately Lowery has teased the project before to Filmmaker Magazine...

“I had the urge to just go make something spontaneously, like I used to do. I would have an idea and go make it, either a short film or an experimental idea. Over the past few years I stopped doing that as much, and I really wanted to get back in the habit of getting some friends together and shooting something. It’s a good habit to be in as a filmmaker. I basically wrapped [postproduction] on June 10th and the next day flew to Dallas and started working on whatever this thing is that we’re making.”

Hopefully this means we'll be seeing something from the film soon. I'd kill for it to land at Sundance, which is where Ain't Them Bodies Saints played.
