Hopes For A Live-Action 'Voltron' Movie Renewed...For Now

A live-action Voltron movie is one of those Holy Grails fans have often desired but never expected to get. Over the years multiple attempts have been made to get one off the ground, but unlike the titular robot warrior they just never assemble as they should. Well now there's reason for a glimmer of renewed hope.

According to Deadline, Universal is considering a new Voltron movie that has a script by David Hayter, the writer behind X-Men and Watchmen. Apparently, the studio picked up the rights when they acquired Dreamworks Animation, who are the ones behind the Voltron: Legendary Defender animated series on Netflix.

Let's not forget Universal are the ones behind the upcoming Pacific Rim sequel, so this could be taken a couple of ways. They may be unwilling to make such a huge investment on a second movie about giant robots, or they could be looking to corner the market. Ignore all of those sites breathlessly stating that a movie is "definitely" happening because that's not the case yet. This is a project Universal just happened to get as part of another deal, and they may choose not to move forward.  We'll just have to wait and see, and keep our fingers crossed.
