James Franco Tries To Impress Bryan Cranston In 'Why Him?' Red Band Trailer

Before he spent all of those years on Breaking Bad, Bryan Cranston was known for being a funny guy in network sitcoms. Whether it was his often hilarious recurring role as Tim Whatley on Seinfeld, and of course who could forget Malcolm in the Middle. Since then he's been dipping his toe in all types of pools, including his earning a Best Actor nomination for Trumbo. Now he's back in the realm of comedy with Why Him?, which finds him going toe-to-toe with his In Dubious Battle director, James Franco.

In what looks like a poor man's Meet the Parents (or worse, My Boss's Daughter), the film finds Franco as an unconventional tech millionaire who tries and largely fails to win over the father of his girlfriend, played by Zoey Deutch. Keegan-Michael Key, Megan Mullaly, and Adam DeVine co-star, so its not like there  isn't a great comedic cast here. It's just the material, which is co-written and directed by John Hamburg (I Love You, Man) looks like a relic from the early 2000s.

Why Him? opens Christmas Day, making it an option for those who just don't feel like an Oscar movie that weekend.
