Jessica Chastain Defies Nazis In First Trailer For 'The Zookeeper's Wife'

Already this year we've seen plenty of animated animal movies designed with the kiddies in mind, and another when Sing opens next month. But for the grownup folks, the cute animals come live-action style and with some pretty deep messages attached. A few days ago we got the first look at Jessica Chastain in The Zookeeper's Wife, and now today comes the first trailer featuring her and a bunch of furry animal pals.

Is Chastain hanging out with cuddly lion cubs, racing ostriches, and petting the elephants? You bet, but this film takes place during the Nazi occupation of Poland and tells the true story of Warsaw zookeepers  Jan and Antonina Żabiński. They managed to convince a Nazi zoologist to let them keep the zoo open as a pig farm, but in secret they were using it to hide Jews in the cages and underground tunnels. Niki Caro (Whale Rider) is directing based on the bestselling book by Diane Ackerman.

Also starring Daniel Bruhl and Johan Heldenbergh, The Zookeeper's Wife opens March 31st 2017.
