No Obi-Wan Kenobi Spinoff Yet? Here's A Possible Reason Why
*SPOILERS* Spinoffs and standalone movies may be the way of Star Wars future at some point, and we're already seeing them put to the audience test with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and a young Han Solo movie. But if that's just the beginning then we can probably expect many characters to get some kind of solo run. Surprisingly one we haven't heard much about is Obi-Wan Kenobi, and it's odd because Ewan McGregor has made it clear he'd love to don the Jedi robes once again. So what's the hold up? Probably not the reason you'd expect.
Entertainment Weekly’s Anthony Breznican appeared on the Rebel Force Radio [via Geek Tyrant] podcast and when asked why there hasn't been an Obi-Wan Kenobi spinoff yet, his answer was surprising. Basically, there may be something involving the Jedi Master in the current saga. Oh boy...
“I have heard rumors that the one reason they haven’t moved sooner on Obi-Wan is that they’re not done with Obi-Wan quite yet in the saga films. So I wouldn’t be surprised to see an Obi-Wan [solo film] happen beyond ‘Episode IX."
Okay, so what does this mean exactly? Kenobi is dead, that much we know, and doubtful he'll get resurrected or anything like that. So what I'm thinking is that we're due some kind of major revelation about Kenobi that changes the way we perceive him, and could then be explored in a standalone movie.
That's my guess, but it assumes any of this is legit to begin with. Think on it and hit us with your thoughts.
