The Chances Of An X-Men/Marvel Crossover Are Slim For Now

When Sony did the unthinkable and partnered up with Marvel on Spider-Man: Homecoming it came after a perfect storm of failures. The Amazing Spider-Man reboot wasn't well-received at all, which was bad because they had already begun building an entire franchise before it was ready. And with Marvel kicking ass everywhere it just made sense for them to work together. Well, 20th Century Fox is undergoing a similar stretch with the X-Men. X-Men: Apocalypse fizzled out, and the future is in limbo with most of the biggest stars (Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, James McAvoy possibly) moving on.

So could we see Fox and Marvel come to a similar arrangement on a future X-Men flick? Not likely, says Marvel's Kevin Feige when asked about it by Variety...

“It’s an impossibility at this juncture. We certainly have enough films to keep us busy for a number of lifetimes."

Well that's a shame, but expected. For one thing, I don't think Fox is in quite the dire position Sony was in. Basically they've had one movie that didn't measure up, and with Deadpool doing gangbusters all should balance out. Plus Marvel has more than enough on their plate already, and trying to cram in the X-men would be too much. And I have to admit that as a longtime X-Men fan I like that they have this corner of the movie-verse all to themselves. They get better treatment on the big screen than in the comics where Marvel has taken a big fat dump on them.
