"There Can Be Only One" As 'Highlander' Reboot Lands Chad Stahelski As Director

Are John Wick co-directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch the most popular filmmakers in town or what? They seem to be mentioned for every open opportunity along with landing some new ones of their own.  Leitch has moved on to spy film The Coldest City and will direct the anticipated Deadpool sequel. Stahelski is helming John Wick: Chapter Two solo this time and also has the action flick Triple Threat with many of today's top martial artists. And now he's landed another high profile gig in the long-developing Highlander reboot.

THR reports Stahelski will step behind the camera to try and bring the seemingly immortal franchise about immortals to the screen. The original movie, which spawned multiple sequels and a long-running cult favorite TV series, centers on an immortal race of swordsmen who must kill one another, amassing more power with each victim, because "there can be only one." Ryan Reynolds, Tom Cruise, Justin Lin, and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo have been attached to earlier attempts to get the reboot going, but Stahelski probably gives it the best shot.

So can Stahelski do with swords what he did with guns? Clearly he's got mad love for Highlander, telling the trade, “I’ve been a huge fan of the original property since I saw it in high school. Such great themes of immortality, love, and identity are all wrapped up in such colorful mythology. I can’t think of a better property that gives the opportunity to create interesting characters, mythic themes and action set pieces.”

Call me crazy, but I have a feeling Stahelski will be placing a call to Keanu Reeves for a role.
