Young Barack Obama Grapples With Race In New Trailer For 'Barry'
You're gonna miss him when he's gone. Trust me. Come January when the Trump administration starts wreaking shop (We haven't seen anything yet), we'll all be missing the quiet charm, easy humor, and disarming geekiness of Barack Obama. And Hollywood has already begun to say its goodbyes. Earlier this year we had the excellent Obama date movie, Southside with You, and now comes the first trailer for Barry, which also follows the future Prez in his formative years.
Starring as Obama this time is Devon Terrell, a very different actor giving what looks like a very different performance than what we saw out of Parker Sawyers. This film takes place in 1981 during Obama's time at Columbia University, and it seems as if race is an issue everywhere he goes. Anya Taylor-Joy, Jason Mitchell, Ellar Coltrane, Ashley Judd, Famke Janssen, Jenna Elfman, and John Benjamin Hickey make an excellent cast for director Vikram Gandhi.
Netflix picked up the rights not long after the TIFF premiere, and will begin streaming it on December 16th.
