First Trailer For Pixar's 'Cars 3' Takes An Unexpected Course
I know I know, you didn't like Cars 2. Nobody did, right? Well, I did. And the numbers don't lie; the supposedly disappointing sequel put another $560M in Pixar's coffers, and continued to sell loads of merchandise. Hello, kids love toy cars! So it was never any doubt that we'd get Cars 3, and the first trailer has arrived to show that it's ditching the spy plot and going back to basics.
Time has passed and now Lightning McQueen (once again voiced by Owen Wilson) is a veteran of the racing circuit, facing down young upstarts like his rival, Jackson Storm. With the help of some old friends like Tow Mater (Larry the Cable Guy), Sally Carrera (Bonnie Hunt), and Hispanic racer Cruz Ramirez, Lightning sets out to learn some new tricks and stay ahead of the pack. But as you'll see, this is some pretty grim footage, especially for a Pixar film aimed at kids. There's more, as the story will also pay homage to the late Paul Newman, who voiced Lightning's mentor, Doc Hudson. Presumably the movie will be much lighter than it appears.
Directed by Brian Fee, Cars 3 races into theaters on June 16th 2017.
