Kirsten Dunst Gets Psychedelic In Trippy First Trailer For 'Woodshock'

Kate and Laura Mulleavy, founders of the Rodarthe fashion label, are following in the footsteps of Tom Ford (A Single Man, Nocturnal Animals) by trying their hand at filmmaking. A couple of years ago they landed their friend and muse Kirsten Dunst for their directorial debut, Woodshock, and now today we have the trippy first trailer.

Like Ford, the Mulleavys' have a keen visual eye that makes for some beautiful visuals, although they seem to be taking a slightly more experimental approach. Dunst plays a woman under the influence of a powerful drug as she tries to cope with a terrible loss. And judging by the looks of things she goes to some far-out places, man. Reminds me a little of the depressed character Dunst played in Melancholia, and the cinematography is similar, too. The film co-stars Pilou Asbaek, Joe Cole, and Lorelei Linklater, who I don't think we've seen since Boyhood.

Here's the synopsis:  The exquisite feature film debut of visionary fashion designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy (Rodarte), Woodshock is a hypnotic exploration of isolation, paranoia, and grief that exists in a dream-world all its own. Kirsten Dunst stars as Theresa, a haunted young woman spiralling in the wake of profound loss, torn between her fractured emotional state and the reality-altering effects of a potent cannabinoid drug. Immersive, spellbinding, and sublime, Woodshock transcends genre to become a singularly thrilling cinematic experience that marks the arrival of the Mulleavy siblings as a major new voice in film.

Woodshock opens September 15th.
