Magical First Clip And 'Hugo'-esque Poster For Todd Haynes' 'Wonderstruck'
If there's one movie headed to Cannes that seems to have captured the attention of those who usually don't care much about Cannes, it would be Todd Haynes' Wonderstruck. The Carol director returns with what looks like another sure-fire awards contender in an adaptation of Brian Selznick's (Hugo) book about two kids from different eras who share a magical connection. And today we have the first clip which just teases at the wonder Haynes will be putting on display. Here's the synopsis:
Based on Brian Selznick’s critically acclaimed novel, Ben and Rose are children from two different eras who secretly wish their lives were different. Ben longs for the father he has never known, while Rose dreams of a mysterious actress whose life she chronicles in a scrapbook. When Ben discovers a puzzling clue in his home and Rose reads an enticing headline in the newspaper, both children set out on quests to find what they are missing that unfold with mesmerizing symmetry.
Starring Oakes Fegley and Millicent Simmonds, both seen in this clip, plus Michelle Williams, Jaden Michael, Julianne Moore, and Tom Noonan, Wonderstruck premieres soon and should open later this year closer to awards season. And if you don't think so, take another look at that poster. Kinda resembles the one-sheets for Hugo, which had a whopping eleven Oscar nominations. Just sayin'.
