Marjane Satrapi To Direct Rosamund Pike In Marie Curie Film, 'Radioactive'
Ever since her breakout, deeply personal debut film Persepolis, Iranian filmmaker Marjane Satrapi has slowly moved a bit closer to the mainstream. Chicken with Plums was a small step in that direction while still appealing to a specific audience, while her psycho-thriller The Voices helped get people talking positively about Ryan Reynolds again. Now she's on the verge of her most accessible project yet, a biopic on renowned physicist Marie Curie, and she's already found her star.
Rosamund Pike will play Curie in Radioactive, which is based on Lauren Redniss' book, Radioactive: Marie & Pierre Curie: A Tale of Love and Fallout. Adapted by Jack Thorne, the story will focus on the romantic relationship between Marie and her husband, Pierre, both Nobel Prize winners.
No word on when cameras will roll, but I'm interested to see who will take on the role of Pierre. Pike has proven capable of finding chemistry with just about anybody, though, and I think we may see Satrapi think outside the box on this one. [Variety]
