Netflix Green Lights Martin Scorsese's 'The Irishman', Filming Begin This Summer
Martin Scorsese may be trying to get some of his long-developing passion projects off the table finally. He already completed the decades-long odyssey to bring Silence to screens (and none of ya'll saw it), and now it looks like mob flick The Irishman is indeed happening at Netflix, with all of the apparent legal troubles in the rearview.
Netflix has given The Irishman the thumbs up, with a $100M budget attached and an August start date. The film stars Robert De Niro as Teamsters hit-man Frank Sheeran, whose alleged list of victims includes Teamsters boss Jimmy Hoffa. Joe Pesci, Al Pacino, Bobby Cannavale, and Harvey Keitel have all been attached to the film at various points but right now none of them are confirmed. What is confirmed is that CGI will be used to de-age De Niro for sequences earlier in Sheeran's life and career.
Netflix hopes to have this ready by 2019, and think about that for a second; a Martin Scorsese movie on Netflix. My how things have changed. [IndieWire]
