Liam Neeson To Star In 'Retribution', Which Sounds Like 'Taken' Meets 'Getaway'
The break from action movies for Liam Neeson is emphatically over. After signing on for The Commuter and Hard Powder, the latter a remake of Norwegian action-comedy In Order of Disappearance, Neeson has now agreed to another remake of a foreign action flick. He'll star in the boringly-titled Retribution, which sounds like Taken meets Getaway, that awful Ethan Hawke/Selena Gomez flick.
Penned by Chris Salmanpour and Andrew Baldwin, the film finds Neeson as a family man who discovers on his drive to work that a bomb has been placed in his car by an unknown assailant. If he doesn't follow the orders given to him throughout the day he and his family will get blown up. It sounds like something Neeson and frequent director Jaume Collet-Serra would team up for, and you'd be right. Except Collet-Serra is only producing this time while a director is being sought.
On the plus side, the film is a remake of Goya Award-winning Spanish film, El Desconocido, so it may actually be pretty good. Although, let's keep it real, it'll probably get stripped down to look like just another generic Neeson thriller. [Deadline]
