NEW THIS WEEK
This
long awaited sequel to the early 2000’s extreme sports franchise sees the
return of original star Vin Diesel as the titular Cage, coming out of retirement
to recover a super secret weapon called Pandora's Box from a terrorist
organization just as extreme as he is.
We Said: “Is this a good
movie? No. Is it a fun January release full of action and crazy one-liners?
Absolutely. If you're looking for an action fix this week, look no further.
Fans of the franchise, or rather the first film, will be pleasantly surprised
by a third act twist that sets up the possibility for a Fast and Furious like
franchise following team xXx. Maybe this one missed the mark
slightly but to be totally honest I will be in line to see the first team up
film that will follow this up.” Rating: 2.5

This
action horror sequel sees heroine Alice (Milla Jovovich) return for one final
battle against the evil Umbrella Corporation and their growing heard of
zombies. When Umbrella’s leader the Red Queen (Ever Anderson) discovers Alice’s
plan for attack, an all out war for humanity begins.
This
romantic teen drama tells the story of the Gardner Elliot (Asa Butterfield) the
first human born on Mars, and his obviously problematic relationship with Tulsa
(Britt Robertson) a teenage girl in Colorado he’s befriended online. After
landing on Earth for the first time, Gardner discovers that he has a lot to
learn about love and our planet.
We Said: “There's some
pretty good tension that ratchets up later as a health crisis intercedes,
turning this into a combination of Starman and The Fault In Our Stars.
Not everything about The Space Between Us works, but it
does a good job of showing how an outsider like Gardner can find beauty in the
things we take for granted. Even if it doesn't totally take off, I think most
will find that it ends up in just the right orbit.” Rating: 3 out of 5
