Simon Pegg & Nick Frost Enroll In 'Slaughterhouse Rulez'
While it may be a while before we see the original Cornetto trio of Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost together again, it's enough that at least 2/3 of them continue to work together pretty consistently. Pegg and Frost are teaming up on a brand new venture by starting their own production company, Stolen Picture, and what better way to launch it than with a geeky new comedy from the popular duo.
Pegg and Frost will star in Slaughterhouse Rulez, which sounds like some crazy Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Japanese manga stuff. Here's Deadline's breakdown of the plot:
Slaughterhouse Rulez is set in an elite boarding school – Welcome to Slaughterhouse – where boys and girls are groomed for power and greatness and they’re about to meet their match. The story’s hero, Don Wallace, is a wide-eyed new boy from a modest background forced to navigate a baffling new world of arcane rules and rituals, presided by sadistic sixth formers. Matters of status are aggressively enforced and conversation with school goddess Clemsie, are strictly forbidden.
But this ancient and ordered world is about to be shaken to its foundations – literally – when a controversial frack site on prize school woodland causes seismic tremors, a mysterious sinkhole and an unspeakable horror is unleashed. Soon a new pecking order will be established as pupils, teachers and the school matron become locked in a bloody battle for survival.
Crispian Mills, who directed Pegg in A Fantastic Fear of Everything, co-wrote the script and will direct, with Pegg and Frost also on board to exec-produce.
While this is great news, the prospects for a Pegg/Frost production company, cranking out movies uniquely suited to their brand of comedy/genre mashup, is even better. If we are ever going to see a fourth Cornetto movie, and we all hope one day we will, this is likely the first step in making that happen.
