With the first trailer for Pacific Rim: Uprising expected to crash New York Comic-Con next week, Legendary Pictures and Universal have decided to get the fun started early. They've debuted the first three posters for the sequel to Guillermo Del Toro's 2013 robots vs. kaiju blockbuster.
The sequel takes place ten years after the events of Pacific Rim, with the Jaeger program expanded into a global defense force. Pretty good idea since the kaiju attack Earth once again, stronger than ever. John Boyega stars as Jake Pentecost, the son of Idris Elba's character from the first movie. In one of the posters you see him suited up for action with his Jaeger, the Gypsy Avenger.
Daredevil season one showrunner Steven S. DeKnight takes over as director, since Del Toro dropped out when the sequel was on pretty shaky ground. Remember, the first movie made about $400M which was just okay considering the huge special effects budget. Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Burn Gorman reprise their roles, with Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, Jing Tian, and Adria Arjona co-star.
Pacific Rim: Uprising opens March 23rd 2018.
