What!?! 'Before Midnight' with Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke is completed!

Liars! Or at least we should call Ethan Hawke a casual fibber at the very least. Over the last week or so, we've been following the rumors regarding Before Midnight, a sequel to the beloved Before Sunrise/Before Sunset indie romances from Hawke, Julie Delpy, and director Richard Linklater. After the two dudes were spotted in Greece, with rumors of Delpy being in the area as well, the suspicion naturally was that they were making the film totally unannounced. A few days later, Hawke revealed that they were simply working on the script, which made sense because Delpy had recently stated they were at least a year away from production.

Turns out it was all a clever ruse, as Deadline reports that Before Midnight(now the confirmed title) was filming in Greece all along, and principle photography has now been completed. It'll likely be offered up to buyers at the upcoming Toronto Film Festival, where I'm sure studios will be quick to snap it up.  As if to rub it all in our faces a little bit, the filmmakers released a statement....

Ethan Hawke confirms work on 'Before Sunset' sequel in Greece

Some keen detective work conducted yesterday led many to speculate that Ethan Hawke and Richard Linklater were in Greece developing a third chapter in their beloved indie romances, Before Sunrise and Before Sunset. The film had been set to film this summer, but co-star and co-writer Julie Delpy said that it was still at least a year off while they finished up the script. So while there was no confirmation of what the duo were doing in Greece, I speculated that they may have just been doing some location scouting for the film, rumored to be titled Before Midnight. Turns out I wasn't far off the mark.

In a conversation with MTV, Hawke confirmed that they are indeed in-country doing some very early production work on the film, with no shooting actually taking place....

Is the 'Before Sunrise/Before Sunset' sequel filming in Greece right now?

It was about nine years between Before Sunrise and Before Sunset, the beloved pair of indie films from Richard Linklater, Julie Delpy, and Ethan Hawke. As we get closer to the same length of time after the last film, the word has started to build that a sequel, possibly titled Before Midnight, is in the works. That talk got louder when Delpy confirmed it herself late last year, followed up a couple of months ago by Hawke who stated that filming would begin this summer. That was quickly shot down by Delpy who said the trio were still hammering out a script, and that production wouldn't likely begin for at least a year. But is it possible that filming is already taking place? The first film was shot Vienna, the second in Paris, and now evidence points to Hawke being in Greece and working on....something.
