The Fight For Freedom Continues In The Trailer For 'Robert The Bruce'

What is it about Scottish history that's so primed for big screen adaptations? Robert the Bruce in particular is really having his day in the spotlight, with this being the second movie in a two year period based on his life (the first being Chris Pine's Outlaw King). I'm honestly not sure if this is a coincidence or if this is intended as a sequel to Braveheart but the Scottish legend is being played this time around by Angus Macfayden reprising the role he played in the mid-90's Mel Gibson blockbuster. I've seen some note that it was a sequel, but can't find anything official noting that, so for now we'll mark it down as an intended coincidence (I'm sure Travis will correct me soon). The trailer, like most things shot in and around Scotland and it's neighboring islands, looks absolutely gorgeous. We know the story is compelling so no issues there, but I do have one reservation after watching the trailer....it's main character. Trailers can be tricky and I'm sure I will be watching this film nonetheless, but God help me Macfayden seems to lack any of the charisma someone playing one of the most inspiring leaders in written history should have. He just looks sad most of the time. Hopefully this was just a poor selection of scenes and Macfayden's Bruce will produce the same goosebumps that Gibson did with his William Wallace.

Sophie Turner and Corey Hawkins 'Survive' in New Trailer for Another Quibi Show

We're not yet a year post-Game of Thrones and Sophie Turner has got a new show on the unique streamer, Quibi. In case you've missed our last posts regarding the new stream contender Quibi is releasing shows in bite-size formats designed for mobile devices. They've been pretty blah so far but I have to admit this one, starring Turner and future A-lister Corey Hawkins, looks damn interesting. I'm not quite sure of the backstory....seems like maybe Turner plays a recovering pill popper, but the main plot is pretty straight forward, Turner and Hawkins survive a plane crash and have to band together to survive. If nothing else, Turner has definitely shed the child-like image of Sansa Stark.

Chris Rock Is Ready To Play A Game In The Trailer For 'Spiral: From The Book Of Saw'

I really need to read into the story of how Chris Rock got involved in the Saw franchise, for someone like Rock who has stuck mainly to comedy with a few semi-dramas thrown in here and there, it certainly seemed like an odd pairing. I'd be lying if I didn't say I had some concerns over the tone remaining in the right place (not that the quality of the franchise hadn't dropped significantly since it's heyday). Well, we just got our first look at the film in the form of a quick 1:30 teaser and it certainly looks like all of the pieces are in the right place. Add to that the possibility for some social commentary, the killer is targeting cops, which could add enough weight to the story to take it out of the throw-away Friday night horror category, and you could have something special here. Plus we get a quick F-bomb from that master, Samuel L. Jackson.

Spiral: from the Book of Saw is directed by horror vet Darren Lynn Bousman, based on a story developed by Rock, who obviously takes the lead role. He's joined by Jackson, Max Minghella, and Marisol Nichols, with the film hitting theaters on May 15th.

Rough Roads Ahead for Daddy Dom in the Teaser for 'F9: The Fast Saga'

What a world we live in, trailers have trailers now. While the full trailer for F9: The Fast Saga won't be out until this Friday we were treated to a bit of footage today of the next installment of the Fast & Furious franchise. It doesn't look like happily ever after is something the Torretto gang is ever going to see, Dom is now a father and living on a farm with Letty, but an ominous warning from Letty to Dom's son Brian lets us know all is not kosher in 1/4 mile land. Shockingly there's no action footage, but I'm sure we'll have plenty of that to go around in Friday's trailer. Stay tuned and we'll make sure to get that full trailer out to you as soon as it drops.

First Trailer For Disney's Experimental 'Short Circuit' Released

There is no denying that Disney is one of, if not the, most famous animation film studio that has ever existed. Throughout the decades, they have released some of the most beloved animated features of all time, such as 'The Lion King', 'Beauty and the Beast', and 'The Little Mermaid' just to name a few. Even their recent animated films like 'Frozen' and 'Zootopia'  have gone on to much success, and it looks like Disney is trying something fresh and exciting this year.

'Short Circuit', their latest animated project, is an upcoming animated short film collection that is now available for audiences to enjoy on Disney+.

Throughout the trailer, we get small clips from the series of short films which each of them seemingly having their own unique style of animation to them, which is extremely exciting and is a great display of artistic talent on the Disney team. What is perhaps the most exciting thing about 'Short Circuit' though, is that we now know how many short films will be a part of this project, thanks to the trailer. There are fourteen of them. The titles are 'Cycles', 'Downtown', 'Drop', 'Elephant in the Room', 'Exchange Student', Fetch', 'Hair-Jitsu', 'Jing Hua', 'Just a Thought', 'Lighting in a Bottle', 'Lucky Toupee', 'Puddles', 'The Race', and 'Zenith'.

This collection of films sure sounds promising, and we gladly do not have to wait any longer to watch them for ourselves.

Kylo Ren Seeks Out the Emperor in New Clip from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

8 Days left until the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, I almost wanted to say that if they keep up these daily TV spots we'd be able to patch the whole thing together but damned if they aren't good a teasing. This clip, which is titled to make you think you're getting your first look at the emperor takes you right to that point and rips it away....something really screwed up must be happening with his look, otherwise why not show him for even a quick shot?.

While descending into a stormy planet we follow Kylo Ren (who is again helmet-less) into a fortress. Once inside the Emperor begins a voice over which goes from his normal voice, to a demonic version, to Vader. His speech is almost taunting, letting Ren know that he's been grooming him all along. I have to reserve all judgement but I really don't know how I feel about this whole Palpatine's return thing yet...doesn't it cheapen the OT? I mean, if he's still around then he didn't just survive Vader's turn but he also outlived Luke. I won't have to wait much longer to see how it turns out. A Small Town Gets Big Problems in the Official Trailer for 'Ghostbusters: Afterlife'

It's finally here! And with the full trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife we also get some answers to the story behind it all, for the most part the answers we got are pretty awesome. First and foremost the trailer reveals how Ivan Reitman decided to handle the legacy of Harold Ramis, and honestly it makes too much sense. That old house that the family moves into...you know the one where Ecto-1 was stored in an old barn. Yeah, that was Spangler's, and he's left it to his daughter. The kids in the film, his grand-kids, while it might be an obvious play it simply makes sense and ensures that he'll be front and center, in some way, throughout the film.

Outside of that I have some reservations. Not a sight of a single OG 'buster throughout the trailer (save for one news clip), and it would appear that the movie is almost a paranormal Goonies. That may not be a bad thing but it will ruffle some purist feathers. There is another angle, one that if true other filmmakers should copy. The footage we're looking at could be totally from the first act and a half of the film. We know the original crew is on-board so it's more then possible that what we are seeing is the setup for the film and Venkman, Stanz, and Zedmore are minutes away from showing up to show the little ones the way.

There's plenty of other neat little notes from the trailer, like when Paul Rudd's teacher character who is obviously a GB fanboy, lets out that there haven't been any ghost sightings in 30 years and the reaction from the kids which implies the events of NYC 1984 have been all but forgotten (I mean, who wouldn't forget a 20-story marshmallow man?). Donnie Yen Hasn't Lost a Step In the Hard Hitting Trailer for 'Ip Man 4: The Finale'

There was a time when I didn't think there was a single Martial Arts move that could rival Van Damme's split kick for it's cinematic perfection. Then came Donnie Yen. Yen and his rolling punches, who's been around for...well, basically ever, busted into the American cinema zeitgeist with the ground breaking Ip Man in 2008 and has been at the top of most movie martial arts lists ever since. Yen single handedly took Kung-Fu back to the top of the list. While the movies of the late 60s and 70s popularized Kung-Fu the years following painted the art as more of an elegant dance culminating in wire-fu films like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Ip Man reminded the world what Bruce Lee had previously revealed, Kung Fu is a brutal and deadly art. Mixing the elegance and precision of the aforementioned films and the violent and effective strikes that have made the art last for so long, Yen showed everyone something new and none of us could look away.

It's been 11 years and three Ip Man films but now the road comes to an end...or at least that's what the title implies. Ip Man 4: The Finale follows the peaceful teacher to America, for reasons that aren't quite made clear in the trailer. What is clear is that he doesn't find a peaceful life and is challenged by, well probably everyone that he encounters to prove himself. The big bad is.....Scott Adkins? Really...that's who we get to close out one of the greatest Martial Arts franchises of all time, the guy that stared in freakin' Hard Target 2? Whatever...it's not about him anyway, this is a 90 minute showcase of why Yen is a legend and judging from the footage in the trailer that's exactly what we're going to get.

He Has Returned? The Trailer for 'Messiah' Tries to Discover the Truth

Regardless of your beliefs you have to admit that a film following the appearance of a Christ-like figure in the modern age is a hell of a concept. It's been done, but never seriously, and never in a very grounded way...it seems like that's about to change. I've always though religious lore was a great source of film material (outside exorcisms). I mean, a film about a war between Heaven and Hell, if done right, would be the definition of epic.

Netflix's upcoming film Messiah just jumped to the top of my most anticipated list, maybe its the lifelong Catholic in me, or maybe I just really dig superheros (Jesus was the OG superhero after all). Either way I think this film is going to have a lot to offer. Taking a hyper-realistic look at the arrival of a figure who is gaining a following and enacting miracles Messiah seems to go the route that the Governments of the world would probably go as well, to brand him a terrorist. That's nothing new really, Jesus wasn't exactly popular with the governments of his time, but they seem to be sprinkling in things that may or may not be miraculous throughout leaving us on the wondering line of is he or isn't he. There is one thing I'm sure of, I'll be queuing this up on Netflix the day of it's release, New Years Day, 2020.

The Meta Gets as Deep as the Patriarchal Drama in the Seocnd Trailer for 'Honey Boy' from Amazon Studios

Shia LeBeouf is about to prove he's more then just a crazy Hollywood type with a movie that's not only going to give a deeper look into the life of a child actor but also shed a spotlight on the inner torment and emotional trauma the actor himself had to contend with in his journey to today. While Honey Boy isn't technically an autobiographical tale of the (still) young actors life it's not hard to look between the lines and see how much of this comes from a very real place...right down to the opening shot of the trailer which is an obvious take on LeBeouf's time on a Transformers set. This new trailer really hammers home the "parental" angle of the film, and I use those quotation marks for a very real reason. I'm dying to see how that relationship plays out as it looks like they're going to show a situation where a father is trying to do right by his son but just doesn't have the tools to do so, like most villains a bad parent doesn't always know they're a bad parent and genuinly thinks, at least some of the time, that they're doing the right thing.

I don't think I've ever been really looking forward to a Shia LeBeouf movie, that is of course, until now.

Eddie Redmayne & Felicity Jones Sore in Second Trailer for 'The Aeronauts'

On the list of exciting film subjects I'd say hot air balloons lands pretty low on the list, but it's amazing what a good movie can make you interested in. This second trailer for festival favorite The Aeronauts (which Travis reviewed at last weekends Middleburg Film Festival) gives us a great look at the adventure tale starring quirky but magnetic pair Eddie Redmayne & Felicity Jones. It's hard to picture but in a world without Airplanes the hot air balloon was the peak of human exploration in the 1800's, and as mundane as it seems the trailer seems to nail home the thrilling and terrifying time one could have in that little wicker bucket. A Legendary King is Made in the New Trailer for Netflix's 'The King'

Whooo doggy. This went from a boring historical period piece to one of my most anticipated films for the remainder of 2019. Timothee Chalamet's name is the one on everyone's tounge as the lead of the film but I'm telling you right now, Robert Pattinson (or Batinson if you will) is going to be the stand out here as the Dauphin of France (no, I don't know what that means either). Pattinson has always been an underestimated talent as an actor, and has garnered some acclaim in the post-Twilight days, but I have a feeling he'll break the chains of Team Edward fully with this film, just in time for his turn as the Dark Knight.

The trailer shows more of the action and war drama then previous trailers and really seems to be the movie that most of us wanted Netflix's other European Monarchy film, The Outlaw King to be. We won't have to wait long to see how right or wrong I may be, The King debuts on November 1st, this Friday!

Gaze Upon the R-Rated Glory of 'Terminator: Dark Fate' with the New Red Band Trailer

Thankfully the upcoming Terminator: Dark Fate is returning to it's R rated roots, and even more importantly it's starting to look better and better with each new trailer. I was VERY worried when the debut trailer hit...the FX looked terrible but that appears to have been rectified. While I don't know how I feel about Arnie's Terminator, which is apparently Cyberdyne Systems T-800 Model 10retirement, I am really digging Linda Hamilton's older Sarah Connor. Obviously the baddest senior citizen will always be Golden Girls Blanche Dubois, but Hamilton seems to be giving her a run for the money here. The other promising thing this red-band trailer gives us is a quick look at the dynamic between the T-800 and Connor, with the latter not really getting in on calling the cyborg 'Carl'

Get Into the Trenches with the New Trailer for '1917'

If there's a list of overdone film settings World War II must be near the top of the list. Conversely the originator of global battle, World War I aka The Great War doesn't even register on that list. I guess it's the cinematic evil of the Nazi's causing the difference but when it comes to drama and heroism WWI is an untapped well of epic-ness (not a word, using it anyway). 

Sam Mendes upcoming film 1917, which has a crazy strong cast in Benedict Cumberbatch, Colin Firth, Andrew Scott, Richard Madden and even fellow GOT alum Dean-Charles "King Tommen" Chapman, tells the story of two young soldiers given an impossible assignment to deliver a message deep into enemy territory. The trailer for the film looks amazing and seems to really capture the chaotic claustrophobic carnage of trench warfare. This war was the worst of human aggression, so much so that it cased the creation of the Geneva convention to prohibit the cruel and unusual forms of death dealing that became popular on the fields of Europe. Sam Mendes, who showed how he handles kinetic and hard hitting action in Skyfall seems to be on his game as well.

'Frozen 2' Trailer: Elsa and Anna Go On A Quest To Save Their Kingdom

The first trailer for Frozen 2 seemed more "epicy" than we were somewhat accustomed to, teasing a grand adventure for Anna And Elsa.  After all, the first Frozen film consisted mostly in their kingdom of Arendelle as Anna, Kristoff, and Olaf save Elsa from both herself, and from Hans (trying to take over their kingdom).  This time in Frozen 2, their adventure takes them beyond their borders to discover the mystery of a magical forest from their childhood stories.

Debuting today on Good Morning America, Disney released the trailer for Frozen 2.  Elsa's still weird, but now she has to discover the history of an enchanted forest where "something went wrong," and that "no one can get in or out." The forest will seemingly be tied to how Elsa has her powers.  The world seems bigger, more beautiful, and more dangerous.

Frozen 2 hits theaters November 22nd with Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff, Josh Gad, and Santino Fontana returning and Evan Rachel Wood (Queen Iduna) and Sterling K. Brown (Lt. Destin Mattias) joining the cast.

Anthony Mackie and Frank Grillo Hit Hard in the New Trailer for Netflix's 'Point Blank'

It's happening, it's really happening. People have been saying for years that the mid-level movie was dying in the movie theater and finding a new home on streaming. Netflix's original content binge has become the key piece in fulfilling that prophecy. 10 years ago this movie would have been a January/February theatrical release, pretty much any 10-30 million dollar film, action, drama, comedy, whatever, would have been . Now we're seeing all of these hit streaming leaving the theaters for the high dollar flicks. Is it a good thing? Time will tell...I won't pretend to have mastered the finer points of cinema finance but I'll tell you this, it makes watching them on release a hell of alot easier.

Point Blank stars Anthony Mackie who's pregenant wife is kidnapped. The kidnappers use her as leverage to force Mackie to break Frank Grillo's character out of police custody in the hospital. The rub? The bad guys are all dirty cops. I'll tell you one thing, I'm damn glad Frank Grillo keeps getting these little chances to show how bad he is. He seems about as rugged as a cliff face and as dangerous as a drunk toddler with a machine gun in this trailer. Honestly, it feels alot like something that we haven't seen in a while...a really good and simple buddy action movie. Anthony Mackie? How can you not like the guy? He's probably in the number one spot for the funny but tough sidekick type, sorry Kevin Hart, you got the funny part but Mackie seems like he could actually kick some ass.

Zac Efron Is On Pace for a Career Performance if This New Trailer for "Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil & Vile" Is To Be Believed

Obnoxiously long title aside, this is easily one of my most anticipated movies of this year. On the heels of it's Sundance premier we have the first full trailer for the Ted Bundy biopic. I was a shoe in for this anyway, I'm definitely one of those folks that spends too much time watching ID Discovery and reading wikipedia articles on serial killers, they totally fascinate me. Bundy is the big fish in that pond. There were others who were more prolific, and still others that did far more abominable things to their victims but Bundy....well Bundy was just so normal (horrible murders aside). A good-looking, charismatic pillar of his community that spent his nights killing college co-eds across the country. Zac Efron, who's playing Bundy, certainly looks the part but up until now we had no clue how he would play the role. I was pretty confident he'd be able to deliver, the guy can do anything it seems, but this trailer confirms it. A perfect balance between the smiling and charming guy everyone thought they new and the viscous serial killer hiding in the dark. The way he handles the court room scenes is unnerving to say the least, playing the jury like a fiddle and knowing he's lying the whole time. The scariest monster is the one we don't know is there.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil & Vile premiers tomorrow at the Sundance Film Festival. Travis is there right now covering the events so keep an eye out for his early review. Sadly the US release date has yet to be released. If you really need your fix you can catch the new documentary on Bundy, Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes, which debuted on Netflix yesterday.

Michelle Monaghan Tackles Immigration Law in the New Trailer for 'Saint Judy'

It doesn't get more topical then this. Saint Judy is the true story of Judy Wood, an immigration lawyer from California, and her fight to gain asylum for a woman who was forced to flee her home country from persecution by the Taliban. It's hard to garner much from the trailer other then the obvious "Woman is told she can't, but does anyway in the face of a big bad guy saving someone less fortunate in the process". That sounded a bit callous, I don't mean it to be, but these things do follow a formula, even when based on a true story. I can only hope that the film dives deeper then the surface. Instead of just hitting all of the emotional beats, lets dive into the ridiculous red tape that keeps us from having laws that help those who really need it and stop those who look to harm. It does appear that some of that bureaucracy will be put on blast.

I love Michelle Monaghan and am glad to see her getting a shot at something real on the big screen. Plus when you add in Alfre Woodard, who plays a judge....a judge that I would NEVER want to be on the wrong side of. I mean really, Woodard is a classy lady but I'd be terrified to have her as a mom, she has mastered that "you ain't getting away with sh@t" look.

Put On A Warm Coat, The 'Artic' Trailer Is Going to Chill You

In terms of scariest movie monsters the most underrated has got to be ole' Mother Nature, she is a spiteful and unforgiving foe he doesn't care who you are or what you do....catch her at the wrong time and shes going to kill you, more often then not slowly. The impeccable Mads Mikkleson stars as a man stranded in the artic with a female companion...can't tell if it's a wife, daughter, or just someone that was on the plane, after a plane crash. After waiting for help that doesn't come he has to set off to find help against one of the most ferocious terrains on terra firma. The beauty of this is that it goes against most of our go to thoughts when thinking of natural danger. There's no earthquake or fire, it's not chaotic or noisy...just still, quiet, and white. The artic appears in it's natural state which is more then dangerous enough. This flick will be a slow burn based on the trailer, flicks that usually go either way but with Mikkleson in the lead I'm putting it on my must see list. If that's not enough for you the flick has already made some festival circuits and is generating rave reviews.

Latest 'Godzilla: King of the Monsters' Trailer Offers More Titans and Teases a Connection Between Godzilla and Millie Bobby Brown

Next year's blockbusters are already beginning to shape up -- Avengers: Endgame is leading the way, of course -- but for any fans of creature features, this latest trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters has a little of everything.

The film, a sequel to 2014's Godzilla, directed by Gareth Edwards, makes some definitive changes -- no more Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen, for one -- but seems to pick up some time after the events of the first film, which introduced humans to Godzilla and the MUTOs. This time around, there are so many more creatures -- gigantic moths and three-headed lizards will be familiar to some long-time Godzilla fans -- and the ensemble looks huge, featuring everyone from returning actors like Ken Watanabe and Sally Hawkins and new cast members Kyle Chandler, Charles Dance, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Thomas Middleditch, and Millie Bobby Brown.

It's Brown who opens the trailer, trying to pick up another person on the radio, and the teaser implies a sort of connection between her and Godzilla -- what is it? Watanabe notes that Godzilla isn't our pet, humans are his, but I'm curious to see what sort of bond the movie creates between the monster and Brown's teen character.

The effects look great, and the cinematography and art design here look spectacular. Check out the latest trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which arrives in theaters on May 31, 2019, below.
