Let the Right One In Remake Finds it's Lead Vamp

Variety is reporting that Richard Jenkins(The Visitor, Burn After Reading) has been tapped to star alongside Chloe Moretz(Kick-Ass) in the remake of Swedish vampire flick, Let the Right One In. The project, now titled Let Me In, was first nabbed by Hammer Films at last year's Tribeca Film Festival. The film is about a lonely, bullied pre-teen boy who becomes fast friends with the new girl in his apartment building, who just so happens to be a vampire stuck at the age of 13. Jenkins will play her human guardian, who tracks down victims for the girl. The boy's role will be handled by Kodi Smit-McPhee(The Road).

Despite a slow beginning, Let the Right One In was easily the best vampire movie to come out last year(sorry Twilight fans!). There was no more fascinating relationship than the one between Oskar and the vampire Eli, and it was a helluva lot more intriguing than anything involving Kristen Stewart and that weird looking Patterson dude. I've been down on the idea of a remake since I first heard about it, because the original is so moody and atmospheric, I don't want that to get lost in the shuffle. Part of what made the film so great was the cinematography, and the calm almost restraining approach taken. It was almost Soderbergh-esque, in the way it's like we're watching all of these events unfold from afar. I don't want that to be left out. Certainly adding a pro like Richard Jenkins to the cast helps alleviate my fears about the acting(which was a bit spotty in the original). Director Matt Reeves has expressed his desire to retain the 1980's setting and mood of the original, so I just hope he sticks to his guns on it.
