Death Note: Re-Light Are Good For New Viewers; Dull for Old Ones

Last week I watched Death Note: Re-light: Visions of God, which is a two-parter that ends with Death Note: Re-light: L's Successors. In this movie, we see the events that happened throughout the first major half of the Death Note anime series through the eyes of the death god Ryuk. For those who are not familiar with the anime series, it's about a school boy, named LIght ,who finds Ryuk's death note. A death note is a notebook that kills whoever's name is written in it. He is pursued by a mysterious detective called L and his team.

For someone who watched the anime series, I didn't see the point of watching this movie. It really wasn't in the point of view of Ryuk. It was mainly a recap of the first half of the anime series. Yes, it did show a couple of new clips, but nothing of importance. This movie, and probably the next one, is more for someone who doesn't want to sit down and watch the entire anime series and wants a summarized version instead.

One thing that bugged me was that there were certain events in the anime that for some bizarre reason, they changed in the movie. For instance, how Light and L meet. I thought it was one of the funniest parts in the entire anime series. In the movie, it was quick, boring, and nothing spectacular. It didn't make sense that they would change this, especially when it was a quick part.

If you have watched the anime series, then I would skip this one, unless you just want to relive it without having to watch all the episodes. For people who haven't seen it and don't feel like getting into the series, then this is a great summarization of Death Note.
