Hansel & Gretel, Ready to Kick A** and Chew Bubblegum

Well, atleast it's a somewhat original concept. Tommy Wirkola, who turned some heads with his Nazi zombie flick, Dead Snow, has turned his attention to the faery tale world. His next feature? Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. Dante Harper, a co-worker alongside one of my favorite directors, David Fincher, has just come aboard to pen the script.

The story is said to take the bread crumb tossing/ witch shoving duo into the future, where they have apparently decided that since they could beat one old witch maybe it'll make for an awesome profession. I'm betting their HQ is the gingerbread house from their first witch kill. The intended vibe is said to be more funny than scary, but I have an inkling this will be no comedy romp.

The original idea sounds like it was taken from Vertigo Comics series, Fables, in which faery tale characters have lived for generations and currently reside in modern times. In that series, Gretel is dead, Hansel is an evi murderer, and the witch is the same witch who has terrorized hundreds of different faery tale characters. I missed the initial announcement of this film back in April, but it's on my radar now. Sounds like it has some promise.
