Channing Tatum, Phillippe Vying for Captain America?

It seems like every other day a new name is being throw into the hat for the role of Steve Rogers in Joe Johnston's The First Avenger: Captain America. First it was John Krasinski(The Office), along with a shortlist that included Garrett Hudland(Four Brothers), Chris Evans(Fantastic Four), Wilson Bethel(Generation Kill), Mike Vogel(Cloverfield), and a few others. Now it's being reported that two more names have been added, and these are by far the most prominent of the bunch.

At SXSW, Ryan Phillippe confirmed that he was due for a meeting on the role. This would be Phillippe's first venture into the superhero genre. The actor was last seen(prominently anyway) in the 2008 Iraq War film, Stop-Loss, ironically enough with Channing Tatum. Why ironic? Because Tatum is the second big name actor to be added to the Marvel wish list for the Captain America role. Deadline is reporting that Tatum was approached by Marvel after the success of GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra made him a "bankable" commodity.

First off, Ryan 'Shane 54' Phillippe? No. This isn't 2001, and he doesn't have the look or the build for the part. I just don't get the authoritative vibe from him that would be necessary for Cap. While I'm no fan of any of these contenders, out of this group my money is on Channing Tatum. He's young, build like a friggin' brick wall, and we've seen him in the leadership role on screen a couple of times already. He's been in enough action movies to hold his own, and I think he's got a certain street level charm similar to the Steve Rogers comic book character.
