Pennywise Is Coming To Get You In First Look At Stephen King's 'It'
Of all the many creepy, unforgettable villains Stephen King has created over the years, none are quite as horrifying as Pennywise the Clown from 1986's It. On the page the demonic clown is scary enough, but when he was brought to terrifying life in the 1990 TV miniseries it was enough to burn a scar into the minds of many. Now Pennywise is back in the long-developing feature film directed by Andy Muschietti (Mama), and the first look at him is here to make you never want to go to the circus again.
Bill Skarsgard (yes of the family Skarsgard that includes Stellan and Alexander) has donned the clown make-up as Pennywise in this image. Just...don't stare into its's eyes. That's how he gets you! Don't look into the eyes!! All that's missing are his razor blade teeth but we're sure to get a look at those eventually. All you need to know is that Pennywise will steal you away, drag you under the storm drain, and rip you to shreds. In the film that's exactly what he does to a group of misfit kids, who he then proceeds to terrorize again later in life.
Here's what Skarsgard had to say to EW about depicting the iconic villain...
“It’s such an extreme character. Inhumane. It’s beyond even a sociopath, because he’s not even human. He’s not even a clown. I’m playing just one of the beings It creates.”
It opens next year on September 8th.
