I haven't been keeping tabs on The Crow since last November when one of the film's producers proclaimed that the film would not be a remake but a "whole relaunch of the franchise". To me, that sounds like a remake, which I'm fine with since I never really followed it to begin with. Since that time the script has been finished and not finished by writer/director Stephen Norrington(of League of Extraordinary Gentleman infamy), with promises of future casting announcements that never materialized.
Now producer Edward Pressman, in an interview with MTV, seems ready to talk more about the project, again stating that the script is complete with casting moving full steam ahead:
Pressman: "[We've got an offer out] to a major actor and things are moving ahead very aggressively, with the aim of doing the film this year,"
He also had this to say about the nature of The Crow in this installment....
Presman: "The Crow itself is a creature in this movie — it's not just a bird ... It's got a personality and a character. Not like Godzilla exactly, but it's very different [and has] a more active role in the story."
Pressman also states that Norrington's story begins and ends in the American southwest, then heads into the big city. That smells like an origin story.
You'll recall that The Crow is well-known for the death of Bruce Lee's son, Brandon, during filming of the 1994 original. The Crow has spawned multiple sequels, most recently in 2005's The Crow: Wicked Prayer starring Tara Reid and Ed Furlong.
