The Authority coming to the big screen?

Most people probably have no clue what The Authority is. So I'll sum it up like this: The Authority was a 1999 comic book series created by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch. It starred a team of superheroes who would do whatever it took to get the job done. If that meant killing, sacrificing innocents, or blowing up whole cities then that's what they would do. The series was a commentary on the turn towards hard violence most superhero comics had taken, even long established ones like Superman and Batman. Make no mistake, The Authority were not "heroes" in a traditional sense.

Could this controversial and groundbreaking comic be making it's way to theaters? If Stana Katic, star of the ABC drama, Castle, is to be believed then hell yes. Illustrator Dean Haspiel, while discussing his Emmy nomination for the HBO series, Bored to Death, had this to say....

The Governor’s Ball was a starry sight. Hollywood throws a party. ‘Nuff said. I met and spoke to Stana Katic, star of TV show, CASTLE, and told her how much I loved her in Frank Miller’s SPIRIT movie [she was my favorite part of the movie]. I have a very short list of who I would cast to play my very own Jane Legit character [Billy Dogma's better half] and Stana is on that list. Stana told me she was in the midst of creating a new comic book and was in talks to act in a movie version of Warren Ellis’ THE AUTHORITY.

Warren Ellis doesn't seem to know much about it. That doesn't man it's not happening. With the similarly themed The Boys already in the works, it's looking like superhero flicks could be taking a turn for the violent real quick.
