The Last Song
By the time you've gotten to the end of this latest teen romance from writer Nicholas Sparks(The Notebook), you'll feel as if you've been through it all before. It's because you have. Miley Cyrus certainly has a way to go as a credible actress, but she's not the reason why the story struggles at times. Greg Kinnear helps keep the mood light in a strong performance that has been completely overshadowed by that of his co-star.
Furry Vengeance
I'm not gonna lie, I'm a big Brendan Fraser fan. I think he came as close to matching the tough but charming Indiana Jones bit in The Mummy all those years ago. But even I have to admit that the guy makes some of the worst movies ever. His slugging % is way below the Mendoza Line. Case in point: Furry Vengeance, which I'd swear just came out like last month or something, has him starring alongside a bunch of talking animals trying to save their forest from being turned into a parking lot.
The Good, the Bad, and the Weird
It's a South Korean spaghetti Western inspired by the works of Sergio Leone. How in the world can it not already be on my Netflix queue? I'm just ashamed that I didn't clear my schedule in time to see it when it showed here briefly in DC.
The City of Your Final Destination
Not many people got to check out this latest Merchant Ivory production, based on the novel by Peter Cameron. It stars Laura Linney, Anthony Hopkins, and Charlotte Gainsbourg in a story about a grad student who wishes to write a biography on his favorite writer. In order to do so, he must convince the most important people in the writer's life to allow it.
The Assassin Next Door
Emphasis on "ass". The only reason to see this low budget straight-to-DVD actioner is Olga Kurylenko, who stunk up the joint most recently in Quantum of Solace
