The cast for Kevin Smith's religion soaked horror film, Red State, continues to slowly round into shape. The fan favorite director has apparently made an offer to Kevin Pollak, who he just recently worked with on Cop Out earlier this year. Pollak confirmed the offer via his Twitter feed. It's unclear at this point exactly what his role will be.
Red State will star Michael Parks(Kill Bill) as a crazed preacher, based in part on the kooky reverend Fred Phelps, who encounters a group of kids and proceeds to teach them a lesson in "extreme fundamentalism". Matt L. Jones, Dermot Mulroney, Kyle Gallner, Michael Angarano, and Stephen Root are already signed on. Melissa Leo(Frozen River) has been offered a role as well but nothing has been signed as of yet.
For whatever reason I haven't been able to really get jazzed about Red State. Maybe because I was hoping Smith would fall back into the View Askew universe for his next flick. The cast involved is pretty good, especially if Leo joins up, and I definitely like the idea behind it. I was skeptical of Smith's last film about religion, Dogma, but it turned out to be one of my favorites. So here's hoping he can do the same here, obviously in a totally different genre.
