The Rock hunts down Vin Diesel in Fast Five! Plot details revealed

We've known for awhile that Universal was going to be gracing us with yet another installment of the Fast and the Furious saga. Heck, the last one shocked everybody by driving away with over $150M domestic($350M worldwide), and this was after everyone thought the franchise was dead after Tokyo Drift(still my favorite one, so sue me). I can't lie, Fast and Furious got me pretty amped up too, and I've been waiting for more details on the next one, titled Fast Five.

What we already figured to be true has now been confirmed as the official plot has been released. The film will take place in Brazil. Tyrese Gibson and Ludacris will be reprising their roles from 2 Fast 2 Furious, and oh yeah, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will be adding his considerable muscle to the already powerful cast. Justin Lin is back to direct, having been the man behind the last two flicks. Check out the plot synopsis below, followed by a couple of quick comments...

SYNOPSIS
Vin Diesel and Paul Walker lead a reunion of returning all-stars from every chapter of the explosive franchise built on speed in Fast Five. In this installment, former cop Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) partners with ex-con Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) on the opposite side of the law. Dwayne Johnson joins returning favorites Jordana Brewster, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Matt Schulze, Tego Calderon and Don Omar for this ultimate high-stakes race.

Since Brian and Mia Toretto (Brewster) broke Dom out of custody, they’ve blown across many borders to elude authorities. Now backed into a corner in Rio de Janeiro, they must pull one last job in order to gain their freedom. As they assemble their elite team of top racers, the unlikely allies know their only shot of getting out for good means confronting the corrupt businessman who wants them dead. But he’s not the only one on their tail.

Hard-nosed federal agent Luke Hobbs (Johnson) never misses his target. When he is assigned to track down Dom and Brian, he and his strike team launch an all-out assault to capture them. But as his men tear through Brazil, Hobbs learns he can’t separate the good guys from the bad. Now, he must rely on his instincts to corner his prey…before someone else runs them down first.

So no Lucas Black, eh? The marginalization of Tokyo Drift continues. >sigh<  Oddly enough, Tokyo Drift has become something of a stumbling block for the series. Fast and Furious took place before Drift(remember Diesel showing up at the end?), and Fast Five will clearly take place after. I'm betting they'll revisit Japan in a future flick, and then maybe we'll get another glimpse of Bow Wow's Incredible Hulk car.

The idea of The Rock tracking down Diesel and Paul Walker is exactly the type of thing I want to see more of. If Fast and Furious reinvigorated the franchise, then his addition could possibly sustain it for at least 3 more flicks, maybe even leading into a spinoff if his character is popular enough.
