Calling Jon Hamm. Snyder looking for "35-40" year old Superman?

With Zack Snyder locked in to direct Warner Brothers' upcoming Superman flick, the only real questions left have to do with acting. We know the story will involve some version of the Man of Steel's origin(his "early days"), and that his nemesis General Zod may or may not be involved. Snyder says that's a rumor, but who can really say at this stage?

But who dons the boyscout Kryptonian's red and blue tights? Brandon Routh seems to be out of the picture. Snyder has said previously that Routh is unlikely to return, but then backtracked when a few fans thought he was cool in Scott Pilgrim or something. The most unlikely rumor involved Mad Men's Jon Hamm, who is nearly 40 years old. A solid actor, to be sure, but doesn't really fit the mold unless you're looking for an older, somewhat darker take on the hero. At least that's what I've been saying.

Armie Hammer, who most will recognize for playing the Winklevi in The Social Network, has been a fan favorite choice, but isn't officially under consideration. Hammer recently told Vulture that when he inquired about the gig he was told that the studio is "going a little older", "they're going 35, 40".  That would be right up Hamm's alley.

A couple of days ago there was the very thin rumor that Mary-Louise Parker could be up for the role of Lois Lane. She also would be wildly out of age range typically since she's 46(but she could easily pass for 30), but if WB truly is heading in an older direction then maybe there's more credence to that story than we thought.
