Johnny Depp to star in remake of The Thin Man?

Johnny Depp as alcohol swilling detective Nick Charles? Sign me up. The enigmatic actor is apparently keen on having Rob Marshall(Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) direct a remake of 1934 detective flick, The Thin Man. The Thin Man starred William Powell(awesome, by the way) and Myrna Loy as Nick and Norah Charles, a married pair of detectives who spend half their time bantering rather than solving cases. The film was a huge success at the time, spawning five sequels...of which maybe two are good in my opinion, but The Thin Man is as witty as they come.

There's not much to the story as of yet. Marshall hasn't agreed, and there's no script to speak of. An updated from Deadline says that Warner Brothers has already conjured up a shortlist of potential writers based solely on Depp's interest: Christopher McQuarrie(The Usual Suspects), Jerry Stahl(Bad Boys 2), and Terry Rossio(Small Soldiers).

I'm not always a big fan of Johnny Depp but I can totally see him as the sharp tongued Nick. But who would play his Nora? Based almost completely on her performance in Sherlock Holmes I would think Rachel McAdams to be a contender. I'm getting ahead of myself, though.
