Shymalan, Jaden Smith team-up for 'One Thousand A.E.'

M. Night Shyamalan has been run over the coal more than any other filmmaker over the last few years. I think most of it is exaggerating and piling on, but there's no denying that his flicks make money. The Last Airbender was a turd sandwich this past summer, but it made over $300M bucks globally.  Devil? While he didn't direct it, it was his story idea with his name plastered all over it and it pulled in a profit. So there's no reason why the guy should ever be out of his work, and with this next project he's got lined up you can all but count on it being another bank busting success.

Shyamalan is teaming up with Will Smith's production house, Overbrook Entertainment, on sci-fi flick One Thousand A.E.  The film would star the fresher prince himself, Jaden Smith. Smith recently scored huge with The Karate Kid, which was also produced by Overbrook.  No details on the story have been revealed as of yet, except we know that there is a role for an adult male lead also. It's not expected that Will Smith will take on the role. He last acted alongside his son in The Pursuit of Happyness back in 2006.

The script is being written by former journalist Gary Whitta, who most recently penned the screenplay for The Book of Eli. So no Shyamalan writing the script is potentially a good thing. I still like his style as a filmmaker, but feel he's let himself fall into a bit of a pattern on the scripting side. If he stays behind the camera I see no reason why Shyamalan can't work his way into our good graces again.
