Wesley Snipes iceskates up MLK hill

Not literally, mind you. I don't even know if there really is a Martin Luther King Hill, but if there was, Wesley Snipes would try to iceskate up it. The troubled actor, who's still appealing a guilty verdict for the crime of tax evasion, has stayed busy over the last few months. Not only was he recently seen in Antoine Fuqua's mediocre crime drama, Brooklyn's Finest, but now he's looking to produce and possibly star in Code Name Zorro. The Justin Hamm scripted film would cover J. Edgar Hoover's illegal wiretapping and public persecution of Martin Luther King.

The story would mostly follow FBI director William Sullivan, who was put in charge of the public tarnishing of King's reputation in order to derail his influence. He also was the man responsible for mailing secret tapes to Coretta Scott King of her husband supposedly flirting with other women. In his biography, Sullivan labeled King a "fraud, demagogue, and scoundrel".

Code Name Zorro will take the position that Sullivan eventually felt remorse for his actions, but never spoke up before the civil rights leader was assassination. There's no indication in reality that this was ever the case.

In 1972, Sullivan was killed under mysterious circumstances in a "hunting accident". No, Dick Cheney was nowhere in the vicinity....that we know of.  Ironically, the place where Sullivan was killed? Sugar Hill, the title of one of Snipes' movies.

Snipes has discussed the story with the family of Martin Luther King, and has gotten their endorsement to push ahead. No director has been named at this time, but Snipes does hope to carve out an acting role for himself.
