Toy Story 3
Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the gang are back for their grandest and possibly final(?) adventure. The worst has finally come to pass as Andy, their owner, is on his way to college, leaving the gang with a sense of uselessness. Enter Sunnyside Daycare, where there's no shortage of young masters eager for new toys to play with. Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and the rest of the talented voice crew are back, along with Ned Beatty as the too cheerful to be trusted Lotso Huggin' Bear. I consider Toy Story 3 to be Pixar's crowning achievement. A truly imaginative, emotional roller coaster that will appeal to kids and adults who've been following the story for years. The best animated film of the year bar none.
Cars Toon: Mater's Tall Tales
More from the geniuses at Pixar. Cars Toon is a collection of short animated stories featuring Tow Mater(voiced by Larry the Cable Guy) and the rest of the four-wheeled cast of Cars
The Bridge on the River Kwai
I don't typically post restorations of classic films here, but David Lean's The Bridge on the River Kwai could possibly be the best war film ever. Or at least it's part of the conversation. Check it out for yourself, in particular the mesmerizing performance by Alec Guiness(Star Wars) as the honorable British officer, Colonel Nicholson.
The Goonies(25th Anniversary Edition)
Hey you guys!!!! Is there any kid who grew up in the 80s that didn't long to be a member of the Goonies? To hang with them on their wild quest for long lost pirate treasure? To make fun of Data and his booby traps. To make out with Kerri Green when nobody's looking? The Goonies is as fun today as it was back then, mainly because of Richard Donner's ability to create characters we can all relate to. There's a Goonie for everyone to love. Me, I was a Chunk fan.
Centurion
How does a movie featuring the fast rising Michael Fassbender(Inglourious Basterds), Dominic West(The Wire), and directed by Neil Marshall(The Descent) not get a wide release? I don't know yet but I intend to find out how this Roman era war film slipped beneath the cracks.
Love & Distrust
Check the cast: Robert Pattinson, Amy Adams, Sam Worthington, Robert Downey Jr., and James Franco. Why havent you heard of this then? Because it's not exactly a movie but a collection of short stories all dealing with love....and distrust, I imagine.
