Tarsem Singh to direct The Brothers Grimm: Snow White

More Snow White news, only this one doesn't have anything to do with the oft discussed Snow White and the Huntsman. This is in regards to The Brothers Grimm: Snow White, which Relativity Media has been trying to ramp up in order to compete with Universal and Disney's upcoming flicks based on the fairy tale. They're lagging significantly behind in terms of production thus far, but they've just taken a major step forward by signing on Tarsem Singh to direct.

Singh is probably best known as the imaginative director of The Cell, which featured Jennifer Lopez in one of her few really good flicks. What Singh SHOULD be known for is his 2007 adventure film, The Fall, which I stilll get irritated over when I talk to people who haven't seen it. It's simply too gorgeous to be ignored, and the performance by the little girl(who's name alludes me right now) is amazing.

The script was hammered out by Melisa Walick, but there's a chance Singh could do some touching up on it. Wouldn't surprise me. He may want to tailor it more to his elaborate tastes. Brett Ratner, who thankfully is only producing and not directing, says that this will be a modern take using elements that the Disney cartoon left out. It'll be "edgy and there is more comedy". What? Edgy and funny? What a novel concept.
