Tops at the Box Office

1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt. 1- $76.3M/$220M
The 7th film in the vaunted franchise continues to cast a dominating spell over the competition, reeling in over $50M over the weekend, $76M including the Thanksgiving early start on Wednesday. This ranks as the highest grossing 10-day total for the series yet.
2. Tangled- $69M
Disny has to be happy with these results, as their latest non-Pixar, traditionally animated adventure scored a whopping $49M over the weekend, plus another $20M for a 5-day total of $69M. That surpasses the first week of wide release of last year's The Princess and the Frog, which opened at $24M. This makes Disney's decision to focus less on Rapunzel in order to gain a wider audience a smart decision.
3. Megamind- $17.6M/$130M

4. Burlesque- $17.2M
Surprisingly, the acting debut by singer Christina Aguilera got off to a decent start for musicals, no doubt aided by the presence of Cher. This more than doubles the opening of Chicago back in 2002, but obviously the ticket prices are a major factor in that. The last major musical I can think of was Fame, which opened at a dismal $8M just last year.
5. Unstoppable- $16.2M/$60.7M
Finally surpassing The Taking of Pelham 123. Good thing because that film sucked and this is much better.
6. Love and Other Drugs- $14M
Ed Zwick's first rom-com in more than 20 years got off to a fairly average start for the genre, which probably has to do with the awful marketing and TV spots. Look for this one to pick up some steam later when Anne Hathaway's name starts getting mentioned for Oscars.
7. Faster- $12.2M
CBS Films flicks continue to tank. Even worse, Faster is a box office disaster by Dwayne Johnson standards. With the exception of the extremely limited release of Southland Tales, this is his lowest grossing opener. Sad, because it's the best starring flick he's done in a few years.
8. Due Date- $10.2M/$85M
9. The Next Three Days- $6.63M/$14.6M
The next three days might be the last for this Russell Crowe flopper.
10. Morning Glory- $5.47M/$26.5M
