Clint Eastwood to direct Beyonce in 'A Star is Born' remake

Well this one came completely out of left field. Deadline is reporting that Warner Brothers has locked up Clint Eastwood to direct a remake of the musical, A Star is Born. If that wasn't crazy enough, he'll have Beyonce as his leading lady, in the role previously occupied by Janet Gaynor, Barbara Streisand, and Judy Garland. Yes, this will be the fourth time the story of a rising star actress and a fading alcoholic actor is brought to the big screen.

Beyonce's last starring vehicle was 2009's Obsessed, which grossed an unexpected $73M and established her as a possible heavyweight leading lady.  This deal is still very much early in the development, as there's been no word on casting the male lead as of yet. I'd love to see Eddie Murphy get a chance to display the dramatic chops he showed in Dreamgirls again, and his reunion with Beyonce could be a good marketing point. Plus the guy can sing.  It's either him or Bobby Brown! Just kidding.

I expect that this will be Eastwood's next film after he wraps up his biopic J. Edgar, about the life of former FBI director J. Edgar Hoover.
