Has The Dark Tower found it's gunslinger? Javier Bardem offered lead role

As expected, The Dark Tower news is starting to roll in pretty quickly now. Just last night Christian Bale's name was added to the shortlist of actors in contention for the lead role of Roland Deschain in the massive, film and television encompassing production. At the time I questioned Bale's desire to want to jump right in to another big project, but now it's looking like it won't really matter as Deadline is now reporting that an offer has been made to one of the other names on that wishlist: Javier Bardem.

Bardem has been scorchin' hot lately coming off his Academy Award nomination for Best Actor in the film, Biutiful(which I'm about to watch this morning!). The story notes that negotiations have not yet begun with him, but if he signs on he'll be in for one hell of a commitment. The plan dreamed up by Ron Howard, screenwriter Akiva Goldsman, and producer Brian Grazer calls for a trilogy of feature films, plus at least two television seasons which are expected to feature the film cast. Guh.  Sorry ladies, he won't be serving as anybody's "champion" for quite awhile.
