Naomi Watts joins Clint Eastwood's 'J. Edgar'

Talk about trading up. No offense to Charlize Theron, whom I love, but Naomi Watts instantly makes any film she's a part of better. She'll have a chance to show it yet again as she has just signed on to play Helen Gandy in Clint Eastwood's next film, J. Edgar, based on the life of former FBI director J. Edgar Hoover.

With Theron dropping out to either pursue Snow White and the Huntsman or Ridley Scott's Prometheus, the role of playing Hoover's loyal document shredding assistant was wide open.

She'll be joining a cast which already includes Leonardo Dicaprio, Judi Dench, and Armie Hammer.

Thanks to Deadline for this story!
