I've never been a big fan of the Mortal Kombat
video games. I was more of a Street Fighter
fan. Mortal Kombat always seemed like it was more flash than substance, content to portray graphic violence rather than construct a worthwhile fighting system. Yes, that's me channeling my inner video game freak. But I have to admit to really digging the Mortal Kombat movie from 1995. At least initially. It doesn't hold up so well, but there's no denying how cool it was the first time I saw Liu Kang on screen. The sequel and subsequent attempts to revive the franchise haven't turned out so well.
