Armie Hammer to star as The Lone Ranger?

See what one eye opening role in a critically revered film can do for you? A couple of years ago nobody except fans of Reaper knew who the heck Armie Hammer was. But after his scene stealing dual role in The Social Network, he's now seen his name at the tip of every studio head's tongue. He'll be co-starring in Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar Hoover biopic soon, and now Deadline reports Hammer is in early talks to play the tile role in The Lone Ranger.

As you'll recall, Johnny Depp has been attached to this thing as the Lone Ranger's sidekick, Tonto, since nearly the beginning. Gore Verbinski(Pirates of the Caribbean) is directing, based on a script by Justin Haythe(Revoltionary Road).

With Hammer already set to be featured in Tarsem Singh's upcoming Snow White film starring Julia Roberts, the young actor is working with a wealth of the industry's top talent in a very short period of time. As you probably predicted, The Lone Ranger is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. Shooting could begin whenever Depp(who is clearly the priority here) finishes up with Dark Shadows.
